DC Cake Appeal wins People's Choice Award
The winner of the People’s Choice Award at the 2009 Chamber Annual Auction and Tasty Affair, was DC Cake Appeal. The award is judged by the event attendees and is based on both presentation and quality of food. This is the second year that DC Cake Appeal has taken home the People’s Choice Award, sponsored by the Shawnee Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Shawnee is home of the first SONIC Drive-In prototype which originally opened in 1953 as the Top Hat Drive-In. In 1959, the name was changed to SONIC. In 2005, Shawnee became home to the 3000th SONIC Drive-In as well.
